The World Wide Fund (WWF) have done extensive research on the interrelationship (the Nexus) that exist between South Africa’s Water-Food–Energy Sectors and how they act upon each other. Based on the outcomes of WWF’s research there is a clear interdependency relationship between the Water-Food–Energy Sectors and that a possible crisis in any of the three sectors will directly affect the other two sectors. Such a crisis may be imminent as the era of inexpensive food and energy ends, coupled with limited water resources.
